Foggia comes from the Latin word fovea which means pit. These pits were used to store the local harvested grain.
The Passo Corvo archaeological park is not too far from Foggia. This is the largest Neolithic site that dates from the 6th to 4th Centuries B.C.
Built in 1927 in a Liberty style, this elegant palazzo is based on a Roman aqueduct. You can see references to this in the succession of arches that decorate the façade.
This is one of the oldest buildings in Foggia. UNESCO elected this building as a “Monument symbolizing the Culture of Peace”.

Opened in 1928, this neoclassical theatre is one of the oldest in Puglia, and is the heart of theatrical culture in Foggia.
This church has a splendid wooden coffered roof. The outer façade has replica human bones intertwined with skulls as decoration.
