Historical Sights

UNESCO has recognised the Arab-Norman architecture in Palermo, Monreale and Cefalù as a world heritage site. As well as these beautiful buildings, there are many other sights to discover harking back to Sicily's fascinating past.

Palermo Cathedral

A mix of architectural styles, this UNESCO-recognised cathedral is well worth visiting. You'll be amazed by its beauty.

Monreale Cathedral

Extraordinary golden mosaics depicting biblical stories are found at this cathedral. The cloisters are also incredibly picturesque.

Cefalù Cathedral

An imposing cathedral set in a beautiful piazza. Some wonderful mosaics, most notably the golden Christ Pantokrator.

Tindari

Take a trip to Tindari and visit the archaeology park with impressive Roman ruins and the imposing hilltop Sanctuary.

Castello dei Ventimiglia

An imposing castle with exceptional views. The Civic Museum is found inside the castle and is an interesting place to visit.

Events

Enjoying a local event is a great way to truly understand the culture of the local area. Here are a few suggestions that could enhance your holiday if you are in the right place at the right time!

Santa Rosalia
Palermo's patron saint is celebrated on 15th July, with a large procession taking place on the evening of the 14th. The city becomes an open air celebration, with food, fireworks and a great atmosphere!
Le Vie dei Tesori
Some of Palermo's most interesting treasures are opened to the public during the weekends in October and November. An incredible way to see the historical secrets of this town.
Sherbeth Festival
An international gelato festival takes place in Palermo in September. Hundreds of stands offer unique flavours of ice cream. There are also concerts, events and talks.
Palermo Street Food Fest
An annual event held in Palermo showcasing street food from all over the world. The streets are full of people, music, and delicious food.
Targa Florio
One of the oldest car races in the world. Today the Targa Florio is a rally that takes place in May in the Madonie Mountains in north Sicily.
Festa del Cappero in Fiore
In June the Aeolian Island of Salina celebrates the caper: a Slow Food presidia. This humble food packs a real punch of flavour and the festival is vibrant and enjoyable, with great food on offer.
