Far West

Sicily's most westerly point, Capo Lilibeo, is in Marsala. This is one of the three extremities in Sicily that gives its name to the Trinacria.

Wine

English wine merchants promoted Marsala wine in the 18th century, creating an economic boom to the area that continues to this day.

Thomas Becket

The Duomo is dedicated to Thomas Becket, the English saint who was murdered in Canterbury Cathedral.

Garibaldi

On 11th May 1860, Garibaldi landed in Marsala with the Expedition of the Thousand, beginning the unification of Italy.

For culture-lowers there are two must-see museums: the Archaeological Museum with incredible artefacts from the past, and the Salt Museum. The highlight at this great archeology museum is the incredible remains of a Punic ship, discovered off the coast in the 1960s.
