This is usually used to produce rosé wines. On its own Bombino Nero has a ruby red colour and is aromatic and full bodies. It goes very well with rustic Puglian food, as well as fresh salami, delicate cheeses, and desserts.
An intense and fruity red, grown from the di Troia grape that is indigenous in Puglia. With hints of blackberries and plums, this is perfect with meat and aged cheese.
Indigenous to the Valle d’Itria, this white grape makes a fruity wine with hints of wild flowers and quince that is so evocative of summer. Perfect with seafood. The name Verdeca comes from the green color of the bunch of grapes.
Black Malvasia is a typical grape from Lecce and Brindisi, but these two areas create different styles. The wine from Lecce is soft and harmonious, whilst Brindisi produces a more aromatic version. White Malvasia is particularly well suited to make sparkling wines and dessert wines.
A white grape that is grown and usually made into a blend with Verdeca. It is mainly found near Martina Franca, Cisternino, and Locorotondo.
Hailing from Calle d’Itria, this white grape produces a characteristic and aromatic wine that brings exotic fruits to mind.
The most famous growing area is Manduria, in the Magna Grecia area. This red grape is cultivated in a traditional way, creating low yields but extreme quality. The scent of red fruits means that this wine goes well with strong flavours, or sweets such as marzipan.
Negramaro used to only be blended with other grapes, but for some time it is now produced as a single variety that has made it one of Puglia’s most famous wines. With notes of tobacco, cherries and carob, this wine goes with anything! The wines are grown in an unusual way in Salento.
This grape is mainly grown in Salento and produces a ruby red wine with a rustic flavour that goes well with rich Puglian food such as pasta with ragù, grilled meats, and cheese. It is often blended with Negramaro.
